I use my own form as a tool to simulate relationships in the work within three spheres: myself as the artist, myself as the subject of queer life, and the audience as the viewing “other.” I define this “other” as a voyeuristic audience, an active watcher rather than a participant. The “other” exists separately but in parallel to moments of intimacy, where identity and self are both revealed and performed for the audience’s pleasure. These works follow a narrative of interpersonal intimacy. Through visual language the body of work engages with queer relationships through the proxy of hands. The subject of the work represented by simply hands both objectifies the subject by limiting their view, while focusing on these intense moments of desire. The prints explore a range of intimacy in both romantic and sexual attraction.
